The Transition to Organic Partnership Program offers Mentorship to Producers Looking to “Go Organic”
Curious about what it takes to be certified as organic? The Transition to Organic Partnership Program (TOPP) mentorship program builds connections between experienced organic producers and producers transitioning to organic to support the transition process and creates a stronger network of organic producers across the United States.
Transitioning producers working with a mentor learn how to manage their farm using organic practices, build connections with the organic community, and receive a wealth of information and knowledge from their mentors on topics related to organic practices and the certification process. Certified organic mentors find new exuberance with farming by working with their mentees and find mentorship brings added value to their work.
Having a mentor available to answer questions and provide support makes the transition process smooth and approachable for the next generation of organic leaders.

For Mentees
Transitioning producers gain support, guidance, and development through mentorship.
As a transitioning producer, you will receive free mentorship from an experienced organic producer. Mentors and transitioning producers will work together to set goals for the mentorship year and will form a strong network of organic producers across the region.
For Mentors
Mentors play a crucial role in helping new organic producers succeed while growing the organic movement.
As a paid mentor, you will have the opportunity to guide and support producers who are transitioning to organic, providing them with valuable insights, practical advice, and industry best practices. Mentorship training, time, and travel are paid. All crop and livestock producers are welcome to apply!
Mihail’s Story
Mihail Kennedy of B Bar Ranch in Big Timber, MT, is leading the way in organic regenerative ranching. He believes organic is about fostering life rather than managing with death. As an organic mentor, he feels responsible for passing on his knowledge and helping others get ahead in the transition to organic by sharing the mistakes he’s already made so they don’t have to.
“It’s a lot easier if you have someone who says, ‘Yeah, I’ve made these mistakes; don’t make them,’ says Mihail. “Having people coming into the program that have those mistakes, I think, is really important, just to help the people who are considering it feel like it’s not a big of a leap, potentially, as they might think just going cold turkey into it.”
