Restoration Agriculture: Moving Water on the Land

September 6 - September 8

$375 – $399

September 6-8th, 2024, Friday night to Sunday afternoon

$399 includes 2 breakfasts and Saturday lunch

Paradise Permaculture Institute is bringing Mark Shepard, author of Restoration Agriculture and Water for Any Farm, to Montana!

Calling all gardeners, farmers, ranchers, permaculturists, and all who care about the future of world food production to experience hands-on methods of moving and saving water on the land. Simultaneously, it is increasing the production of animal and food crops, rebuilding soil and contributing to local food sustainability.

Mark’s proven innovative water managed agricultural systems have carried his farm through erratic weather and water patterns with no feed for federal subsidies or crop insurance payments!

At PPI’s 6 acre demonstration site Mark will present:

  • Friday, September 6th: concepts of ecosystem mimicry, water management, agroforestry, and the feeding and care of systems.
  • Saturday, September 7th: He will conduct an initial onsite consultation, assessing plant community types, reviewing the site’s terrain and maps, and visually assessing the flow of water across the property. He will then use a rotary laser level to design and mark out a water management system so that swales may be mechanically cut during the session.
  • Sunday, September 8th: Mark will discuss scale of permanence, management strategies, ideas and layout for tree plantings, and in general, “where you go from here.”
