Backroads of Montana: Melons & Mules

September 16 @ 8:00 pm - 8:30 pm

You don’t have to be in Montana to travel the backroads with us! Watch right here with our Facebook friends around the world.
Here’s the lineup:
There’s a difference between produce grown to be shelf stable and fruit handpicked when it’s ripe, and Montanans can taste it. That’s why one melon farm in Dixon has earned a loyal farmers market following. See all the elements that go into this family’s harvest, and hear the surprising story behind the farmer who took a chance.
Near Square Butte, we hit the trail for a tradition more than 50 years old. Each June, the Chouteau County Trailblazers invite folks to ride along on their trail ride and the share the camaraderie and scenery of Montana’s open spaces.
We’ll explore a picnic area in Lolo known for an historic battle that never happened, and get to the mystery behind the name of “Fort Fizzle.” A surprising piece of the story was hidden in a county archive for more than 100 years.
And Red Lodge has a new way to enjoy one of humanity’s oldest hobbies: stargazing. Science, community, and the wonder of the night sky all come together at a new community observatory just at the edge of town.
John Twiggs hosts the episode from Crow Fair, a three-day celebration of indigenous culture, in Crow Agency.
