Citizen Seed Savers Project

September 17 @ 6:00 pm - 8:00 pm

Always wanted to learn how to Save Seeds? Love Saving Seeds and want to get involved in a bigger way? See the importace of participation in our food system?

Join the cadre of local citizen seeds savers! Together we will learn how to grow and save seeds from a variety of vegetable, flower, and herb plants. At the end of the season we’ll come together to clean the seeds we’ve harvested, share them, and celebrate.

The seeds that Citizens Seeds Savers produces will be used for planting the Mayday! Gardens next year. Mayday! Gardens is a program that gives full gardens of vegetable starts to particiapnts, and also includes videos and other imformation about growing food plants successfully.

  • Learn the basics about Seed Saving with four worshops over the season presented by Farmers Laura and Henry. April and May workshops are the same and are the introduction to the series.
  • Grow one or more vegetable plants for seed this summer. Learn and do the whole process: from seed to seed!
  • We’ll grow the transplants, plant the stecklings, and direct sow the seeds for a harvest of MT adapted vegetable crop seeds!
  • Harvest and contribute your seeds to the Mayday! Gardens project- growing food plants in yards across Montana.

Whether a beginner or an experienced gardener, there is a vegetable crop seed you can grow with success! No matter if you have a small space or a huge yard of potential, you can grow vegetables for seed. Most important thing is, you want to learn about seeds and collaborate with nature!

There’s tons of easy to grow self- pollinated veggies like lettuce, tomatoes, and beans to start wtih, as well as wind and insect pollinated plants for more of a challenge.

Growing vegetable seeds is a very important act.

The Mayday! Gardens program needs seeds to be able to grow and give away vegetable plant starts. We need seeds grown at a variety of locations. This allows for enough space between vegetable varieties to prevent cross pollination. We need seeds grown by a variety of people. This brings us together, stregthens communities, grows resilience, and frees us from the corporate control of our seeds, our food, and our future.

Please join us in growing seeds together.
