Old Salt Festival is bringing three chef teams, twenty musicians, and a lineup of artists, makers, and educators to Helmville, MT this June.

HELMVILLE, MT — Presented by Old Salt Co-op, the 3rd annual Old Salt Festival is a food & music celebration of Montana land stewardship taking place June 20th – 22nd, 2025. They’re bringing together wood-fired cooking, Americana musicians, Montana ranchers, and Western makers to celebrate in high Montana style on the Mannix Family Ranch in Helmville, Montana.

A Celebration of Land Stewardship

The Old Salt Festival stands on its own in the long buildup of Montana festivals as a celebration of land stewardship through food, craftsmanship, and music, and three chef teams will be cooking meat from livestock born, raised, and processed here in Montana by Old Salt Co-op.

Chef Teams: Sarah Glover, Mona Johnson & Jaret Foster, and Peter Cho

Each day, your ticket comes with small bites from the incredible chef teams, Sarah Glover, Mona Johnson & Jaret Foster, and Peter Cho.

The chefs will be showcasing the incredible meat from Old Salt Coop. Abundant Montana is proud to have helped the Old Salt Festival source most of the rest of their menus locally!

Land Talk Lounge

Beyond food and music, the Old Salt Festival maintains its purpose of fostering community. One of the ways they aim to accomplish this is through conversation.

The Land Talk Lounge features panels, talks, and storytelling sessions. It brings together thought leaders from across agriculture, conservation, science, health, and beyond to share ideas, lived experiences, and to address topics that the American West faces today.

Last year, this aspect of the festival was Abundant Montana staff’s favorite.

We can’t wait to attend the myriad of panels again this year, especially “A Conversation on Rural and Agricultural Mental Health,” which aims to shed light on the unique challenges—and quiet strength—of life on the land.

About the Old Salt Co-op

The Old Salt Co-op is more than a meat company; it is also a model of regenerative ranching and land stewardship, focusing on both ecological health and returning value to the people who steward the land. ‘Land Is Kin,’ the Co-op’s motto, is the distillation of this shared set of values.

Each ranch in the co-op strives to deliver on these principles, raising grass-finished, antibiotic- and hormone-free livestock. The producers practice regenerative grazing management, which includes short-duration, high stock density, and long pasture recovery, focusing on building biomass and diversity of species, including grasses, native plants, insects, birds, and other wildlife.

Old Salt manages an online direct-to-consumer meat shop, where customers can buy meat products raised, grown, and processed in Montana. Additionally, Old Salt’s restaurant division currently boasts the Old Salt Outpost in Gold’s Bar and The Union, a butcher shop and wood-fired grill in downtown Helena. Old Salt operates a small meat processing plant and is in the process of building its own USDA-certified slaughterhouse and processing facility near Helena.

The Old Salt Festival is the community-facing effort of the group, aiming to celebrate land conservation, music, food, and education.
