Tongue River Winery is located just two miles from I-94 in Miles City, and boasts the only winery with a commercial vineyard east of Missoula. Tongue River Winery specializes in only making wines that represent the region, sourcing all fruit from Montana or an immediately adjacent state. They make bone dry to semi-sweet red and white and rose grape wines and a host of fruit wines to tease and tantalize any palate. Free tastings and tours are available at almost any time except Sunday morning. The phone numbers are listed on the outside wall. Simply call when you arrive, or better yet, before you leave home. Winner of over 75 gold, silver and bronze medals for their wines, their customers’ favorites include Tongue Tied (similar to a Malbec), St. Pepin, Cherry Pie, and their best-selling Rhubarb. Their 2017 Marquette won the esteemed Jefferson Cup award, first one in the US for a Marquette wine.
Tongue River Vineyard & Winery LLC is owned and operated by Bob and Marilyn Thaden. Bob has 50 years of winemaking experience and is the head vineyardist, winemaker and business manager. Josh, after 7 years apprenticing with his dad, was the Head Winemaker for three years but has moved on to other things. Marilyn is the Tasting Room manager and coordinates special events, parties and meetings at the winery, plus does a lot of support work in the vineyard and winery. Melodie Seymer is the all-round apprentice and works wherever she is needed.

Ask for a tour of the operations, visit during one of their harvest parties, or if you are a Harvest Hosts member you can park your self-contained RV and stay the night. OR Tongue River Vineyard is approximately 3 acres with grapes, haskaps, cherries, apples, pears, raspberries, plums and more, grown to produce wine. Tongue River Winery has a production area in the garage and basement, with a tasting room on the main floor that seats 45 people, with a scenic overview of the vineyard. The winery provides tastings and hosts small to medium-sized groups upon request. Wine is sold by the glass, bottle or case. Tours of the vineyard and winery are generally available. A nice leg-stretching walk to the Tongue River is available on the site.
