Kalispell

We raise naturally colored Merino Sheep specifically for the handcraft community. We maximize our flock at the 25 finest over a spectrum of natural colors. We take pride in the longer staple, bolder crimp and magnificent handle in this strain of merino. We feed only local hay and locally grown custom milled grain as part of our feed plan aimed at longer staple and stronger fiber for the handspinner. Our sheep are pasture raised and jacketed for cleanliness and sun protection all year. We were very selective in our starter stock and continue to select to a higher level. Supreme raw fine wool fleeces are our primary focus. However, we also have been developing a line of yarn and roving to our products which is homegrown and processed entirely in Montana. These merinos are also a larger body and make an excellent dual purpose breed. We annually have a few breeder lambs available. Our flock is NCWGA and MWGA registered. Steitzhof Merinos is a registered “Grown in Montana” entity.

Growing Practices

  • Agroforestry
  • Mob Grazing
  • No Sub-Therapeutic Antibiotics
  • Raised Without Added Hormones
  • We utilize a very small amount of locally grain grain as a means to supplement needed nutrients, vitamins and minerals that are not consistently available in our pastures. It is not a weight gain portion, merely a means to get them to ingest for a healthier sheep. We believe a good feed plan serves is the key to a strong natural immune system and a healthy flock. Anti biotics are very rarely used and only for individual injuries or sickness.
