2nd Street Bistro opened its doors in the Historic Murray Hotel in the heart of downtown Livingston in the spring of 2004. The Bistro is rooted simply in the belief that great food and wine make life more pleasurable. They are committed to providing locally sourced cuisine and wonderful wines at great prices.
The Bistro combines the techniques of classic French cooking with locally sourced Montana lamb, pork, beef, chicken and produce. They pride themselves on making everything from scratch, from baguettes to croissants to crème brulee.
“Livingston is a very special little windy town in rural Montana and we wanted to do something truly special using locally sourced products to support our community. Though sometimes hard through the years, we have proudly sustained this philosophy of serving good food to good people.”
In the summer season, the 2nd Street Bistro utilizes its own urban farm. The private, thousand-linear-foot farm produces all the vegetables and most of the herbs the restaurant uses in the summer, from mixed greens and tomatoes to beets, broccoli, and cabbage. In addition, Chef Brian Menges teaches cooking lessons for school field trips. The children are not only taught how to make their own food, but also to question where their food comes from and the importance of fresh, local ingredients for the health of your body and the environment.
