SUMMARY:Rural Resilience- Ranch Insights: Sheep Industry Takeaways for Beef
DESCRIPTION:Join Rural Resilience for the sixth year of the Rural Resilience Webinar Series\, where they’re growing their ranching and rural community’s financial\, ecological\, and social resilience with experienced speakers and actionable insights. \nThis free\, four-part series will tackle key topics designed to support ranchers and rural residents: \nMarch 5 – Ranch Insights: Sheep Industry Takeaways for Beef\nOver the past 75 years\, the U.S. sheep industry has faced challenges that mirror pressures in the beef sector. From shifting consumer preferences and import competition to labor shortages and grazing losses\, these experiences offer valuable lessons for today’s cattle producers. Brent Roeder\, MSU Extension Sheep Specialist\, will share insights from the sheep industry’s history and what cattle producers should consider as they navigate changing markets and policies. \nAbout the Speaker: Brent Roeder grew up on a multigenerational sheep\, goat and cattle operation in the Texas Hill country. Attending Montana State University to get a master’s degree in Range Sheep Nutrition he met his wife\, Tracie. Having two brothers handling the operation in Texas\, he and Tracie chose to stay in Montana working for four years at Sieben Live Stock Company\, helping with the Undaunted Stewardship Program while conducting large scale livestock weed grazing projects\, served several years as the Montana Woolgrowers Executive Secretary\, three years as the Extension Ag agent in Teton County and presently serves as the MSU Extension Sheep and Wool Specialists and Supervisor at the Montana Wool Lab. Brent and his wife Tracie operate a registered Targhee operation that winters on the Greenfields Irrigation Project near Fairfield and summers in the Blackfoot River east of Missoula. Tracie manages a direct-to-consumer lamb market enterprise with Central Avenue Meats in Great Falls and also a value-added wool blanket business. Brent’s main research and extension interests focus on overlaying new technology on proven management practices\, exploring how international supply and demand affects the profitability of Montana producers and improving wool and lamb production in Montana. \nEach session includes a 60-minute presentation followed by a 30-minute Q&A\, allowing you to engage directly with our expert speakers.\nCost: FREE! \nDon’t miss this opportunity to gain practical knowledge and connect with others dedicated to building resilient ranching and rural communities. \nPre-registration is required—Zoom link will be emailed upon registration. \n(PLEASE NOTE: You will be registering for the entire series.  It is not necessary to register for each webinar separately.)

SUMMARY:Blooms & Brews - One Flower\, One Place: Spotlight on Missoula's Endemic Wildflower
DESCRIPTION:Nestled in the windswept\, arid ridges of Missoula’s North Hills grows an endemic wildflower found nowhere else on Earth. Dr. Meredith Zettlemoyer (University of Montana) will share her lab’s new research program studying how the endemic Missoula phlox (Phlox missoulensis) survives\, reproduces\, and fits into its ecological and evolutionary neighborhood. We will discuss the remarkable floral diversity of this species\, its population health\, how it’s related to similar species\, and how it interacts with the local plant and pollinator community. By understanding Missoula phlox’s evolution and ecology\, we hope to help guide conservation for this rare species and the unique ecosystem it depends on.

SUMMARY:Women in Ranching 2026 Confluence: Rooted to Rise
DESCRIPTION:  \nThe Spring ’26 Confluence is designed to spark meaningful conversations and deepen connections to the land and one another. This immersive experience offers participants the rare opportunity to engage with each other and with guest speakers\, exchange ideas\, share stories\, and celebrate the power of collective action. Through collaborative activities\, open dialogue\, and thought-provoking panel discussions\, we will build on our roots\, laying the groundwork for continued growth.  \n2026 is the International Year of Rangelands and Pastoralists\, a United Nations–designated initiative bringing global attention to the people who steward the world’s lands\, and the International Year of the Female Farmer. This year’s Confluence line-up reflects that shared vision of supporting ranchers and land stewards locally and globally.\nOur team has thoughtfully curated an agenda of keynote talks\, skill-based workshops\, and meaningful dialogue focused on mobilizing and supporting women in ranching and pastoral systems. Confluence is as much about relationships as it is about ideas. Once a year we gather together\, share hard-earned wisdom\, learn new skills and imagine what’s possible. \n
