Participants will learn cattail cordage and platting and will make a mat and a small basket. You will also learn about the many uses of this versatile plant. \n  \nKaren Coombs has been a crafter all her life. She was hooked when her mother’s friend showed her how to make pine needle baskets when she was 11. Over many years\, she has explored various fiber arts. She enjoys\, crocheting\, knitting\, weaving\, spinning\, basketry and horticulture. For 25 years\, Karen organized a bush kitchen for the Tracking Project\, a non-profit organization that teaches hard ground tracking and other survival skills\, along with indigenous cultural teachings. She also taught basketry for the Glacier Institute. Seasonally\, Karen runs Garden City Nursery growing perennial herbs and bedding plants.

SUMMARY:Food Safety Training: FSPCA Preventive Controls for Human Food Participant Course Version 2.0
DESCRIPTION:Does your company need a Preventive Controls Qualified Individual (PCQI) on staff to fulfill the requirements of the Preventive Controls for Human Food regulation of the Food Safety Modernization Act (FSMA)? \nThe Current Good Manufacturing Practice\, Hazard Analysis\, and Risk–based Preventive Controls for Human Food regulation (referred to as the Preventive Controls for Human Food regulation) is intended to ensure safe manufacturing/processing\, packing and holding of food products for human consumption in the United States. The regulation requires that certain activities must be completed by a “preventive controls qualified individual.” \nThis rule states that every human food manufacturer\, except for the very smallest (who have modified requirements) must have a PCQI develop and implement your facility’s food safety plan and other key tasks (See 21CFR117.180 (c) (1)). \nThis course\, developed by the Food Safety Preventive Controls Alliance (FSPCA) and led by a Lead FSPCA instructor\, is the standardized curriculum recognized by the FDA; successfully completing this course is one way to meet the requirements for a “preventive controls qualified individual.” Participants will receive a certificate of completion directly from the FSPCA after completing the course. \nThis course was revised to Version 2.0 in 2025. The updated version addresses important updates in FDA guidance documents; PCQIs will need this knowledge to keep their Food Safety Plans up-to-date.

DESCRIPTION:Do you want to learn about the conservation of bumble bees and contribute to a community science project? \nOn June 6\, join Michelle Toshack from the Xerces Society to learn and practice Bumble Bee Atlas protocols. Anyone with an interest in bees and a desire to help them in a hands-on way is encouraged to attend — no prior experience needed! \nThe first part of the day will be spent indoors at the Montana Audubon Center. You will learn about bumble bee ecology\, life cycle\, and conservation issues\, as well as an overview of how to participate in the Bumble Bee Atlas. \nWe’ll then head outside for lunch and some hands-on practice catching\, photographing\, and releasing bumble bees. Xerces will provide all project equipment (nets\, vials\, ice) to use during the training. Please bring your own camera (cell phone cameras work!). \nCome prepared for the day with lunch\, snacks\, water\, walking shoes\, sun protection\, and note-taking materials. \nRegistration is limited!
