SUMMARY:How to Actively Manage Semi-arid Rangeland
DESCRIPTION:Join this free webinar to hear practical lessons a ranch manager has learned from restoration and grazing management efforts in arid landscapes. We will discuss considerations for using compost\, biochar\, or bale grazing in variable and windy conditions\, the role of targeted brush management\, and aligning livestock choice and management with both ecological goals and economic viability. We will hear from Travis Dimler\, the manager of a ranch near Alpine\, Texas. This ranch has been part of a set of Quivira demonstration sites and Travis will discuss the differences between short-term implementation effects and observed long-term changes to soil health and resilience of different active management strategies. The content will be applicable to all who are ranching in arid and semi-arid regions and wanting to build up the soil health of their land. There will be an opportunity for Q&A and discussion after the presentation. \nContact Eva Stricker at eva@quiviracoalition.org with any questions. \nThis material is based upon work that is supported by the National Institute of Food and Agriculture\, U.S. Department of Agriculture\, under award number NR227442XXXXG005 through NRCS.
